Living Room Makeover | Home

I am so excited that I can finally share our little living room makeover with you! Moving into a new build home has been amazing because we had a clean slate to work from and we are able to put our own stamp on things. However, I have found choosing styles and colours really challenging because I don’t want to get it wrong. I know that there is no wrong when it comes to decorating because there are ways to reverse it, but the nerves were there!

Colour Scheme:

Kyran’s favourite green armchair was the main inspiration for our colour scheme. When we moved, I didn’t quite know where it would fit in so I used it as the centre piece. I wanted something quite rich in the living space to contract the bright, white skirting boards and walls. Pinterest was also my best friend with this project! There were so many gorgeous jewel-toned green rooms to take inspiration from.

The Paint:

I looked at so many paint samples from so many brands and nothing was ever quite the right colour. We have a local decorating shop so I went to look at their paint selection. They stock quite a few brands which was really helpful to compare the finishes, as well as prices, of the paint. Eventually, we settled on this amazing colour – Mid Azure Green by Little Greene. It came in a finish called ‘Intelligent Matte’ which has a slight sheen to it which makes the colour look so much richer.

The Accessories:

The dark green velvet cushions are from IKEA. I had been searching everywhere for something to match the paint colour and was about to give up and make my own when I spotted these! With the throw, I spotted this on the Primark website and to get hold of one in store. It is huge and is super soft which makes it perfect for snuggling on the sofa. The yellow and green cushions that came with our sofa weren’t originally part of the scheme but the yellow brightens up the room a little!

Putting the Room Together:

When we finally got around to putting the paint onto the walls, I was definitely a bit nervous. Putting dark green onto clean white walls felt rather daunting, but once it was on I knew it was the perfect colour. I would really recommend the brand that we used. It went on so smoothly and the colour was so pigmented! It took 2 coats and dried in a couple of hours. We decided to paint the back wall as well as a smaller section opposite, behind the TV. Once we put the room back to normal, we could really tell the difference in the atmosphere of the room. It feels much more homely and warm with all of the finishing touches. The prints (and the frames) above the sofa are from Desenio. They have such a big range of prints and their frames are really good quality too! I really think they bring all of the colours of the room together and finish it off nicely.

I am really looking forward to doing some more house and interiors content this year as we decorate the rest of the house. I loved putting together my tips for making a house into a home with small decor changes and I would love to do some more!
